Pangaea Organica
When I took my first sip of this coffee, I looked at my husband and we both paused and said, “Wow” in unison. This coffee is sincerely the best coffee I have ever tasted! Pangaea is named after the period when the continents of our Earth were joined together creating one huge supercontinent, called Pangaea. The Greek definition of the word is ‘entire earth’, which is what the owner wants to invoke; the connection between people, relationships and the earth, and that what we do somewhere has an impact in someone or somewhere else. Being a cooperative company, the employees/owners are interested in roasting the best 100% Organic, 100% Fair Trade Coffee from beans that are grown around the World, rather than making a profit. The difference between Pangaeas coffee and other coffee roasters is that they roast their coffee on a bed of hot air, characterized as convection roasting. It is similar to popping corn on a popcorn popper, which enables light, fluffy popcorn that gives you the opportunity to really taste the corn. This is the same thing that happens to coffee beans, where the beans are roasted by tumbling in hot air and therefore are roasted evenly bringing out the more al fresco flavor, bringing out the unique personality and essence of each bean. Unlike many coffee companies who roast in a drum roaster, where the beans tumble around against the surface of the super hot drum which can cause them to char and create that ‘bitter’ taste in your cup of coffee that most people don’t want. You won’t ever get a ‘bitter’ cup of Pangaea coffee!
In addition to their wonderful coffees, Pangaea boasts it’s ‘triple bottom line’ philosophy pertaining to its people, the planet and their profit. This means they use fair and beneficial business practices toward labor, the community and the region in which they reside, they use sustainable environmental practices, and their bottom line is founded on conscientious commerce.
As far as picking a favorite roast, I am unable since I actually enjoyed every sample I received from them, and I am sure you will too. Some of the coffees they offer are:
