Natural 100% plant derived hair dye
So we have all heard about how bad it is to dye our hair, and it seems we all have done it or are still doing it. So I decided to seek out a natural hair dye, and try it out for the greater good of all moms out there. This is what I found out.
The company: Act by Nature, LLC produces high quality all natural hair colorants. Their product line includes revolutionary patent pending natural permanent hair color, coloring tints, and color enhancing solutions made using 100% plant derived dyes. They use no para-phenylenediamine (PPD), no ammonia or other amines, no peroxide, no resorcinol, and no parabens.

This product was really messy to apply (although I was applying the darkest color they have, Medium Natural Brown 4N). They did supply me with a nice screw on comb attachment to place on the end of the dye bottle, which you would think would be less messy, but it just made it harder to get everywhere. I applied it and let it sit for a half an hour, while blow drying it to heat it up every five minutes or so. When I hoped in the shower to rinse it, the color just kept rinsing out until I finally just decided to get out figuring it was just never going to rinse out all the way. When I got out I screamed because my face was a tint of purple gray from the dye rinsing down my face with the water from the shower. I vigorously applied their dye remover on my face and subsequently got some of it in my eye, which caused me to scare my kids when I screamed. When I dried my hair, the color was a purple/black color, not the medium natural brown it boasted on the box. My hair also feels like straw now, and my scalp looks like a zebra from they dye staining my scalp. I have now spent an hour in the tub soaking my hair to try and get the dye out, and it has stained my tub a purple color that won't come out. It did not come with a conditioner so I am using my own conditioner and leaving it on throughout the night to hopefully give my hair a little moisture back.
I do not recommend this product, but I will give it a C- rating. Reason being, after a week, my hair is still very black, but it doesn't look that bad and my scalp is free of any markings. It did dye my hair, just a little messier than I wished, and the wrong color. My recommendation to all moms, stop dying, and just cut your hair short and let it grow back to it's natural state, because if we can't salon dye it, I don't know if there is another option.
